About This Journal

The VRA Bulletin is the journal of the Visual Resources Association, a multidisciplinary, international organization dedicated to furthering research and education in the field of image management within the educational, cultural heritage, and commercial environments. The mission of this journal of professional practice is to:

  1. Promote scholarship applicable to the field of visual resources,
  2. Provide the option of juried research to VRA members and like-minded information professionals,
  3. Disseminate information, ideas, and experiences in image management.

The VRA Bulletin is published twice a year. Volume 1 was printed in 1974, and volume 37, the last formal print edition, was in 2010. The electronic version starts in 2011 with volume 38, issue 1, published by the Berkeley Electronic Press. The transition from a print to an electronic journal allows authors and editors to interact directly with one another using an online publishing system. Individual articles are downloadable PDF files with stable URLs that can be saved, bookmarked, e-mailed, or otherwise disseminated.

The Visual Resources Association Bulletin is now a fully open access journal, which means that all materials distributed online are completely free to access by readers upon publication. The costs of publication are borne by the Visual Resources Association and its members or by the authors or their funders through a publication fee (equivalent of VRA membership). VRA supports the principle that making research freely available to the public through open access optimizes search and discovery supporting wider dissemination and a greater global exchange of knowledge.

The Visual Resources Association is a multi-disciplinary organization dedicated to furthering research and education in the field of image management within educational, cultural heritage, and commercial environments. The Association is committed to providing leadership in the visual resources field, developing and advocating standards, and offering educational tools and opportunities for the benefit of the community at large. The Association actively supports the primacy of visual information in documenting and understanding humanity’s shared cultural experience through collaboration, partnership, and outreach with the broader information management, cultural heritage, and educational communities.
