Vol. 38 No. 1 (2011): The inaugural electronic edition of the VRA Bulletin

Dear Visual Resources Colleagues,

We are pleased to introduce the first issue of the online VRA Bulletin published by the Berkeley Electronic Press (bepress). Since September 2011, the VRA Board, Publications Advisory Group, and Editors have been working on the transition from its current print format to an electronic journal.

As the frequency of the VRA Bulletin regularizes over the next year, you may notice combined content from 2011 and 2012 in each issue. For example, in this issue we have included the VRA Statement on the Fair Use of Images for Teaching, Research, and Study by the VRA Intellectual Property Rights Committee because of its timely importance to the membership and beyond. In addition, you will find a substantial, highly detailed article on digitization metadata and workflows and association news regarding a new affiliate society.

We realize that moving from print to electronic publishing brings significant change. If you are interested in reading more about digital publishing, we encourage you to visit and explore the following online content that proved useful to us:

We welcome your feedback, your ideas, -- and especially your submissions -- as we embark on this new publishing adventure. Please join us!
